Freelance work on Matt’s real-world projects

Introduction

I recognize that it can be hard to get a job or land gigs in EdTech these days. Many openings often have hundreds of applicants. I went through it myself as I transitioned from teaching to the EdTech world, years ago. In my recent role as head of Digital Learning at McGraw Hill, I hired 62 people in 2024. This experience, plus hiring at 4 other EdTech companies, has given me unique insights into what it takes to score interviews and ultimately get hired.

Matt’s Career Coaching

I’ve started this program so that I can focus my attention on a small group of aspiring EdTech employees who are ready to be hired and use my experience and referral network to help them get interviews. This program is made for individuals who have completed an EdTech training program, experienced professionals looking to switch jobs, freelancers looking for gigs, or EdTech leaders looking to move into leadership positions at other companies. If you have not completed a Masters program in your desired field or received a certificate from a respected program, then I recommend you complete one of the following programs before signing up to join my referral network:

How will I help members!?

On Day 1 you’ll get access to a resource that has the following information for close to 1,000 EdTech companies: Contact information for Hiring Managers and Recruiters, Link to companies broken down by sectors, direct link to hiring pages, description of companies.

You can start by submitting your resume, cover letter, and portfolio to me for review. On a monthly basis, you’ll submit where you’ve applied and then we’ll both reach out to hiring managers and recruiters: You’ll use the public contacts I’ve provided while I’ll use my personal contacts (that information is not shared) to help you get in for an interview.

To help you find jobs that are a good match for you, I’ll send you personal applications to complete where I have strong contacts. In addition, I’ll provide you with a resource that has a collection of the best job boards, support networks, jobs influencers, and ID/freelancer resources. Once you get interviews, we’ll do mock interviews together to help you land the position!

Finally, those in my network get first dibs on freelancer projects that I’m working on or aware of. Whether you’re committed to becoming a full time freelancer or not, you should be completing small projects in your field to increase your skills, make connections, and give you additional accomplishments to highlight in your resume, portfolio, and during interviews.
